I have received the following information from Isobel Shippey of another "Dad's Army" production.

The Wisbech Players are proud to present:

Dad's Army by Jimmy Perry & David Croft and directed by Barbara Mews

at The Angles Theatre, Wisbech, Cambs

Tuesday 14th November to Saturday 18th November 2006

Performance times:
Tuesday 14th, Wednesday 15th and Friday 17th - 7.30pm
Thursday 16th - 8.30pm
Saturday 18th - 2.30pm and 7.30pm

Ticket prices
£10 or £8.50 OAPs and students
Party booking concession also available
Tickets available from the Angles Theatre Box Office
Telephone: 01945 47 44 47

This stage adaptation consists of three hilarious TV episodes - "The Deadly Attachment", "The Godiva Affair" and "Mum's Army" plus the 'added bonus' sketch "The Floral Dance that was specially written for a Royal Command Performance.

In The Deadly Attachment the platoon finally come face to face with the enemy - in the shape of a German U-boat crew - but when the tables are turned both the Vicar and Lance Corporal Jones lives are put at risk!

Mum's Army sees the platoon recruiting women, but as Mrs Mainwaring "hasn't left the house since Munich", she won't be joining her husband's platoon. So, when newcomer Mrs Gray enlists, Captain Mainwaring is set for a brief encounter.

The Godiva Affair - The casting of one of Walmington's fine ladyfolk for the role of Lady Godiva in a Spitfire fund carnival procession, overshadows the platoon's rehearsals of their Morris Dance.

All the well-loved characters appear including "Stupid boy" Pike, "Don't panic, don't panic" Jonesey, "Doomed, we're all doomed" Frazer, "May I be excused, Sir?" Godfrey, all under the command of the redoubtable Captain Mainwaring and his effacing deputy Sergeant Wilson.

Produced, once again, for the Players by Barbara Mews, one of the area's most talented directors, this show promises it's audience a night of laughter and nostalgia.

It's nice to know that Dad's Army is being performed regularly in theatres around the UK. Very Happy

Dave

Thanks Dave

This is defiintely something I'd normally suggest we go to together, but Cambridgeshire is a bit of a treck I'm sure you'd agree.

If it ever comes to Brighton or Pompey however...

Even Brighton is a trek for me nowadays. I drove there and back in the early hours of yesterday and I was really suffering by the time I got back home. I'm still in pain now. Cambs is definitely out!

Never mind, I'm it will appear in Pompey again!

Typical isn't it? I lived in Cambridge for four years and now that I'm on the other side of the world they put on a Dads Army play down the road!

I live in Wisbech, but was unable to go due to being unwell at the time. For those outside of the area, unless you have a car, forget even visiting the Theatre. I am a member of the Group trying desperately to get the railway line reopened, hence my name on here, so hopefully if they do another at the Angles, we can arrange for a late train service back to March at least.

I recently spoke with the Manageress of the Angles Theatre about doing another 'Dad's Army' production and she assured me that the one they put on last year was a sell-out, but can't be sure whether or not it will be repeated. I did point out that if it does get put on again, public transport needs to be improved first.

By the way, I have since moved from Wisbech, but still visit weekly and now Chairman of Bramley Line.
