Dear Members,

I don't appear to be able to receive any email notifications of updates or replies to posts or topics I am watching and I wonder if any of you have the same problem. It is a bit embarrassing as I am missing lots of posts!  The strange thing is that I have the identical settings to those in my Airfix site and I always get those but never the Whispers ones.

Please can you make a post below telling me whether you do or no not receive the emails.  I need to know both.

Thanks

Dave

I used to receive notification when someone replied to one of my messages. However, I un-checked the option entitled 'Always Notify me of Replies' in the profile screen since which I do not receive any notification e-mails.

Do you have a cleanup utility e.g. CrapCleaner (recommended!) that you run periodically? this will delete your cookies and these could vary from site to site.

Thanks for your comments, lads.

It is not a cookie issue or anything like that. I don't retain cookies anyway and my browser cache is deleted at the end of each session. It was a more fundamental issue than that. Quite a few site owners had been complaining and then I realised that I wasn't getting the Whispers ones although I got my Airfix forum ones.

As it turns out, tonight I have been receiving the notifications again. Perhaps the hosts have tweaked something because I certainly haven't. As I said earlier in the thread, I have the same settings in both of my forum - supposedly to make it easier to flit back and forth!

Anyway, seems the problem is solved.

The same old problem of my not getting notifications is back again, both on this forum and my other Airfix Tribute Forum. So, apologies to those of you who are having to wait a long time for me to approve memberships. It is rather annoying because I am also missing replies in threads that I am involved or interested in and I'm not getting Private Message notifications either. As I am having to spend most time away from the forum, it is doing my nut in as I don't want to be seen neglecting you all!

Maybe (over-excessive) spam filtering by your ISP? You could test for this by creating yourself another email ID at another ISP, then having that ID notified of new appends. Even hotmail or googlemail would probably suffice.

I suspect it is the domain hosts for my email address, not the ISP as I just checked my emails online and there were none. I have reported it to the hosts now that I know that the rest of you are okay. I didn't want to raise a support ticket until I had heard from some of you.
Thanks for the help.

When I signed up to join the Forum several days ago, I waited for a reply to announce my login had become effective to start posting, but it never came. Today, I just tried again and found it working!

So there must definitely be a problem with automatic e-mails.

By the way, the email client I'm using is nothing more sophisticated than Outlook Express on Windows XP.

In addition to those notifications, I also get admin ones telling me when somebody has signed up. I haven't been getting them for months now and my other forum has gone the same way in the past fortnight or so. I haven't changed anything, use the same set up - Outlook & XP, and have had the same email addresses since both forum were set up. It really is puzzling as normal mail is getting through to the email addresses and I have the forum hosts in my White Lists.

Dave
