At least for today, anyway, when I got a mention in the Daily Mail!

It was actually nothing to do with Dad's Army but was to do with Airfix the model company. I returned to making models a couple of years ago after a gap of twenty-five years and earlier on this year set up The Airfix Tribute Forum. Well, yesterday it was announced that Hornby were going to rescue Airfix from oblivion and a Daily Mail business journalist, Becky Barrow, contacted me for an interview!

We spoke for quite a while but very little was used in the article. I got a mention right at the end:

"Dave Coventry, 47, runs The Airfix Tribute Forum, which has nearly 350 members aged from ten to 74.

He built his first model when he was seven. He said "I stopped modelling when I joined the Navy at 17 and discovered other interests like girls.

"But then in 2004 I rediscovered Airfix, and that the models were still available"
.

That is it. A brief moment of glory for my forum. I would like to point out that I didn't join the Navy and then discover girls! Girls appeared much earlier! Laughing

This is getting bit of a habit. Last year I was mentioned by The Independent when I travelled to Edinburgh to go to the Live8 concert. I went on Bob Geldof's specially chartered train provided by Richard Branson and was interviewed on the way up. I was described in the paper as "an activist". I wasn't really, I just blagged a free ride to a free concert! Laughing

Well, there are a couple of reasons why I hadn't "cross-pollinated" the two forum yet:

a. My Airfix forum has been getting a right hammering from potential spammers who, I am glad to say, never made it onto the forum. There were also some issues that kept me rather busy too! So, rather than have to keep a wary eye out on two forum, I kept quiet about this forum. I will let people know about this forum shortly though now that things are more settled.

b. My Airfix forum is also extremely busy and the recent news about Airfix going to the wall and back hasn't helped either! So, it is only now that I feel that I can handle both forum.

c. I had some personal matters that meant that I was unable to give my undivided attention to one forum, let alone two.

I don't! Yawn!...... We have had to suffer neighbours from Hell for the past three years and have had to grab sleep whenever possible! It wasn't so bad for me as I don't work but for the rest of the family it was a particular nightmare. Last weekend was one of the worst ever for us but, I am glad to stay, the neighbours moved out last Monday. It is now so quiet and peaceful you can hear a mouse blink an eye! However, my body clock is completely shot and I am still making posts at weird hours!
