It is with more than a small amount of sadness that I have to announce that I will be closing down the Whispers From Walmington web site at the end of August. The site celebrates it's eighth birthday this Thursday (16th August) and I feel it is time to bring it to an end. Due to health, financial and other reasons I cannot devote the time to it any longer and rather than leave it to wither on the vine, I will be removing it completely - along with my DaveCov Comedy site. They have both served me very well and I have made a lot of friends as a result of running them but it is time to move on to pastures new.
Don't panic! This forum won't be disappearing and will still continue as it is but I hope to transfer a lot of the web site content to here. I won't be able to give this forum as much attention as I perhaps should but I will still be around. So make sure your blackout screens are in place correctly as I will checking up on you.
So sorry to read that Dave and wish you well. Thank you for starting this forum, even though I don't post much on here. I have had Internet problems and now have another role, so get on here as and when I can at present. _________________ Stand by your beds.
At least take some print-screens of all the pages...
Man, this sucks...
I'm lost for words. _________________ *A thankyou to all the cast and crew of Dads Army, who helped make Dads Army what it is to me today - my favourite TV show, my first call of comedy and something to drop off to sleep to!*
Sorry to hear the news, Dave. I know you've put alot of hard work into the project over the years.
There a a dwindling number of DA sites on the net, many have not been touched for years.
You could never be accussed of being bored with it....
On the plus side, Dave Homewood intends to keep some of his interest going on a site dedicated to the NZ air force, where he will have a DA/HomeGuard section.
I'm sure you'll hear from him _________________ We're all dead, but alive for a very short time...
This is indeed a pity - especially having just found the forum recently. However Dave, I am more than interested in either taking over the running of the forum or if that proves not possible, starting a successor to the Whispers forum, and linking it to the podcast.
I strongly believe that Dad's Army needs a central interactive hub for its fans. The Whispers forum is something that practically every fan who knows how to operate a computer is aware of, even if they do not regularly post messages. The programme needs a world-wide forum, in one form or another.
I would be interested in your (and everyone elses) thoughts on the above.
I think you misunderstand, I am only closing down the actual Whispers web site, not this forum. It is the web site that takes up too much money, time and effort to maintain, not the forum. The forum will keep going for the foreseeable future and possibly with all of the content of the Whispers web site added to it - time permitting.

Thanks for the offer anyway.

Och, I never doubted you for a single second!
Despite my mis-understanding, the closure of the wesbite is still a shame - the volume of info it contains is far in excess of many other Dads Army sites. I will start downloading the info forthwith!
I fly out to Turkey for 2 weeks on Friday so this will be the last time I am on here.
Over the last few months I often looked on the forums even though I never signed in, I found lots of things out about my fav program.
I will miss the site very much, thanks for my brief membership to the site, and thanks for your hard work.
Take care everyone and keep safe
George Lowe
