Did anybody see Hancock and Joan on BBC4 last night? Ken Stott made Hancock sound like Richard Briers. I'm glad they kept referring to John LeMesurier's character by name, as people may have thought he was supposed to have been Edward Fox!!

Welcome to the forum Mike!
Dave - yes, this THE Mike Geraghy, returned from the 'dead'!
Ahh, my Dad has Sky+'d this for me so looking forward to watching it at the weekend.
If last week's Curse of Steptoe was anything to go by, it should be a cracker.
This is a great little series, amazed it's only on BBC4, sure they will make their way over to BBC2 at some point when the people at the beeb realise the high quality they're working with here!

I thought he was meant to be Prince Charles!
I think the show showed how much of a nice guy John was like his Sgt Wilson character. He got used/abused by both his wife (Joan Malin) and Tony Hancock, who truth be told, was a self-pitying, friend-betraying, attention-seeking drama queen.
Sadly John's other wife, actress Hattie Jacques, also didn't seem to appreciate what a nice guy she had married and also cheated on him. In true John 'nice guy style' Le Mesurier allowed the press to blame hime for the break up.
So OZ, I take it you not a fan of the lad himself?

Ha ha.. let's put it this way, I'm more of a fan of John LM...

I watched the programme on satellite channel BBC Four. In my opinion, the guy playing John Le Mesurier was nothing like him: he was not able to capture either the look or the voice.
The comment, above, that he looked and sounded like a cross between Edward Fox and Prince Charles is just about right. You would not have known he was supposed to be John Le Mes if people hadn't kept calling him by name!
The bloke playing Hancock at least looked slightly like Tony Hancock, even though he sounded nothing at all like him.
Worst of all was the actress playing John's wife, Joan Malin, who was just pulled straight out of central casting with no regard to the fact that she neither looked nor sounded remotely like Joan, who I've met several times.
Joan - the real Joan - wrote a book about her experiences, entitled 'Lady Don't Fall Backwards', in which she tells what really happened. The BBC Four programme was just a piece of soft porn looking for an audience, and I certainly hope it never surfaces on real television.
