Arnold Ridley/Private Godfrey the 'Conchie': what a hero

Who'd have thought?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/u...tars-First-World-War-heroics.html

Perhaps this is why Croft and Perry paid tribute to him in 'Branded'.

There is a new book called 'Famous 1914-1918' (bit of an odd title?!) by Richard van Emden & Vic Puik by Pen & Sword that gives the WW1 careers of Ridley & John Laurie.

I'm currently writing an article for Britain at War magazine about the Dad's Army cast's war service. Will post details of when it will be out.

I wonder if this author drew from my research I did some years ago to piece together Arnold Ridley and John Laurie's wartime experiences in both wars?

I found Arnold's the hardest, I couldn't find much info. I'd be interested to see how much the new book has.

The article I wrote and published some years back in 'Platoon Attention!" magazine for the DAAS NZ Branch can be found on my website these days here

My article on John Laurie's wartime experiences is more comprehensive but I'm not putting it online at this stage as it will be incorporated into my book on his life.

I also did one on JLM and another on Clive, and I published one by Stephen Lowe in the magazine about his father Arthur too at the time.
