Artur Lowe Shakespeare QuestionI enjoyed the documentary on Arthur Lowe last Saturday, especially the clip of him on stage acting in the Shakespeare play. I was wondering can anyone tell which play that was & who Artur played in it?

I didn't see the show as I am in NZ, but I guess it was probably Much Ado About Nothing where he played Dogberry, for BBC TV in 1978?
Or was it earlier?

Thanks Dave, your probably right. Do you know what other Shakespearean parts Arthur played. In the show it was mentioned that he acted Shakespeare at The Young Vic in 1972.

I don't have any 1972 theatre listings for Arthur, though it may well have happened. He did replace Sir Laurence Olivier as Stephano in the run of The Tempest at the Old Vic in March 1974. I think that's a Shakespeare play, isn't it?
Most of his theatre work seems to have been comedies, farces and musicals.

Yeah The Tempest is one of his best.
It's interesting I didn't know that, it shows the stature which with Arthur's talent was held if he was chosen to replace the great Laurence Olivier.
