Contrasting Leadership StylesDear enthusiasts,
I wonder if you can point me in the right direction.
I am a training consultant and am considering using a Dad's Army clip on a leadership workshop to illustrate (in a humourous way) some different styles of leadership.
Could you recommend a single episode (or even better a single 10-15 minute clip) where the following characters demonstrate their different approaches to getting things done through others :
Captain Mainwaring - I see him as trying to be authoritative and believing himself to be quite visionary in his style.
Sergeant Wilson - I see his style as predominantly affiliative and sometimes democratic, either desperate for everybody to be happy and to all get on or wanting to get all views on board (and perhaps avoid making a decision)
Corporal Jones - I see Jones as a 'pace-setter' wanting to lead from the front and show how it should be done.
And of course Warden Hodges with his somewhat 'directive' if not 'coercive' style of "turn those lights out".
I hope my question makes sense and I look forward to some sage advise.
Regards,
Steve.

Hi Steve,
Not sure if its any help, but one episode that you might want to consider springs to mind;
'If the Cap Fits'
Deals with the reversal of roles amongst the platoon with Pvt Fraser stealing the limelight with his "spirited attempt" to run the platoon as Captain, Sgt Wilson demoted to Private and the rest of the platoon all mistakenly promoted to Sargent, Pike to Lance Corporal, Jones to Pvt etc. It then shows a snippet of how each of the characters changes (for the better, or worse) with their new promotion/demotion.
Might be worth a look.
Cheers,
Paul.

Surely an episode from The Office might be more appropriate?

Leadership StylesI have come across a clip on You Tube entitled 'Absent Friends' and it may suit my purposes. Can anyone tell me which episode this comes from and indeed if it is available to buy on DVD. Regards Steve.

Hi Steve
Absent Friends is the name of the episode and its from Series 4. This episode almost certainly does meet your requirements although I would agree with pault that If the Cap Fits would also serve the purpose.
All of Dad's Army is now available on DVD - each series is about a fiver. Bargain!
