JAMES BECK silver award BBC personality 1970 DADS ARMYhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JAMES-BECK-...2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
It seems such a shame that this award has to end up on ebay, at present there are four bidders, I hope it goes to a good home!
Merry Christmas

That is something that the Bressingham Museum, or the Thetford Museum, should be bidding on.
I note it is a joint award, did all the main cast get one, or was it a joint win with another unrelated actor?
I assume it is one of his step-children selling this. I personally think one of the two Dad's Army museums should try to secure it.

Dave, I totally agree. | Quote: | | In 1970, Arthur Lowe won the Variety Club's BBC Television Personality of the Year award for his work in the series. |

Just so we don't end up bidding against each other !
I think I'm bidder 4 currently at around £78 but I think it will go higher that that !

This is all a bit like For the Love of Three Oranges! I'm not bidding, good luck.

Had I won, my intention was to lend it for exhibition but it has gone beyond me I'm afraid. I had a maximum bid of £80 but it's now at £82.
I think it will end up £150+ but I could be way out either way !

I was nearly right !
I got the 1, 5 and 0 !
To paraphrase M&W . .
I got all the right figures, but not necessarily in the right order !

The winning bidder:

has an image of a similar Variety Club shield, presented to Margaret Rutherford in 1963, so let's hope he is connected with the Variety Club in some way.

From the winner...
Hello,
Thank you very much for your message - I was very interested to read the comments on the 'Whispers from Walmington' forum. If you are a member of the forum, I would like to reassure you and your fellow members that James Beck's Variety Club of Great Britain Silver Heart Award is in safe and very appreciative hands. It has joined a collection of film and television award trophies presented to some very fine actors and actresses and so it is in good company. I am a great fan of Dad's Army and a great admirer of James Beck's work - I am sorry that his life and career was tragically cut so short. I hope he will be happy that his award is being well looked after.
Sincerely
