Sad news. Interesting to speculate how the dynamic of the series would have changed if his character from Episode 1 had remained. I think of Sgt Wilson as the slightly fallen "Toff" of the unit , with Godfrey as the gentile refined Platoon member. |

Very sad news. I liked his character of Bracewell in the early episodes, which were among the last 'new' Dad's Army shows I saw. The character showed promise, but was perhaps dropped because one upper-class platoon member (Wilson) was considered enough?
I also really enjoyed his portrayal of MI5 boss Major Maxwell in 'The Piglet Files'. A relatively obscure comedy, but VERY funny! RIP John. |

I also enjoyed John's portrayal of the character of Captain Bailey.
I think Cpt Bailey featured in 'Room at the Bottom' and 'Dont Fence me in'. ? RIP John. |
