Mrs Shaw

Permission to speak??!!

I have just joined this forum so thought I`d take the time to introduce myself.

I am  forty-something, married with three almost grown up children and live in Nottinghamshire.
I`ve been a fan of Dad`s Army since I was a tiny tot (well, about 6) watching it on my Grandad`s knee. He served in the Home Guard where he lived, which is where I still live, and used to chortle away at the antics of the walmington-on-Sea platoon.

I have to admit to not thinking about the series much though for some time since, but the re-runs on BBC2 and a chance gift of a DVD of the movie brought it all back to me. So now I own the whole lot on DVD and am working my way through it in order!
My favourite episode has to be "The Armoured Might of Lance Corporal Jones". I could watch the scene in the meat cooler forever more!! If only they made TV like that these days!

Looking forward to meeting you all and learning more about this amazing programme!
Very Happy

Hello Mrs Shaw!

Welcome to the forum.  It's a great place to meet like-minded individuals who love the series as well.

I have loved the show since my teens, and now get the very great pleasure to talk about it all the time on the Dad's Army podcast.  Hope you get a chance to listen to it sometime.

The scene you refer to in The Armoured Might is one of my favourite scenes too - Jones isn't being portayed as an imbecile and is genuinely funny.  I also think it's one of the first scenes ever to feature a prolonged conversation between just two of the regular characters (Mainwaring and Wilson excepted).

Hope you enjoy the forum.
