having watched all the DVD's in my Complete box set, I started working my way through a back log of vintage Hammer horrors, which is another passion. I'd acquired a 2 disc set (Region 1 ) of "The Lost Continent" and "The Reptile".
A wry smile crossed my face when I saw the name John Laurie in the opening credits for the Reptile. he plays a major supporting character called 'Mad' Peter and exhibits all the odd twitches and mannerisms we know and love from Undertaker of Walminton-on-sea. I won't give away the plot. A very young Jaqueline Pearce also stars, who you may recognise as Servelan from Blakes7
I'd recommend the set as The Reptile has lots of atmosphere and "The Lost Continent" is so bizarre it's worth the price of admission alone. It features a stranded tramp steamer in a lost sea, ensnared by seaweed and under attack by the inbred descendants of the Spanish Inquisition. Add to this carnivorous seaweed and gas-filled balloons attached to people backs enabling them to walk across the weed. The oddity is rounded off with a truly strange lounge-style score.
