Just wondering if anyone here had seen or subscribed to the Dads Army DVD collection from geFabbri, the one with the magazine? What is the video quality and the magazine like?

It looks pretty good on the website....but holy hell is it expensive!!! Shocked 8 pounds for 3 episodes! I've been getting the BBC DVD's, for about the same price you get the whole series - but with a sad lack of extras.

Anyone think these are worth the extra money? The whole set will end up running 200+ pounds, about 600 dollars down here in the land of the pacific peso Crying or Very sad

You mean to say you never read about it on "Whispers From Walmington"? Shameful! Wink

The official geFabbri website is here.

I haven't seen the set myself but I do remember getting lots of emails from disgruntled fans who had subscribed to the magazine. They initially received magazines but then stopped receiving them for no reason! Probably that has been sorted out by now as I haven't received any more complaints about them.

One of these days I will get round to buying Dad's Army DVDs myself but it won't be by getting that set. Not only is it too expensive but it would take up too much space but I don't have need for the magazines either. I'm sure if I need to find out anything about Dad's Army there is a website somewhere that can help me out!

Another view - yes, I subscribed to that collection (it's now complete). Yes it was expensive. Yes, you probably could get the episodes content cheaper elsewhere.
What you can't quite put a price on is this: every fortnight or so, a new DVD would arrive. On a Saturday evening my kids would bring me the latest DVDs and I'd select and choose an episode to watch (two if they were lucky).
Over the weeks they've grown to learn and love the series and its characters. They insist on seeing the full credits everytime. They look through the magazines. They have their own favourites (Godfrey and Pike).
On most of the DVDs there's a special feature, at least a series of still photos, sometimes video interviews and a "Focus on..." on all the principal actors. There's also some one-off specials, like Christmas show sketches from 1970s comedy shows.
The magazines don't tell you anything new but they are ideal for the children to browse through and there's quite a lot of educational stuff about the war, rationing, etc.
Quality & service has been excellent throughout.

No I don't work for them!
We haven't quite finished the whole collection yet, but it's as though the show has still been running weekly, 30 years later.

Sounds like you have a good time! If I tried to get my kids involved in Dads Army they would probably tie me in a chair and force me to watch Big Brother or some other trash! Laughing

welcome to the forum ..... you stupid boy! Laughing

The problem I have is that all these subsciption services are ok if you live in the uk or europe. Its a hell of a lot cheaper to buy the DVDs here than have them shipped over!

p.s.

The HMV here in vancouver has a huge wall crammed full of so called "brit-coms". Even stuff that is very difficult to get in the UK! Ive spent a fortune so far!If you find yourself here....bring your wallet!

Not uktv gold but we do get a channel called 'DeJa View' (groan!) that has dads on it sometimes along with are you being served? and other such classics!

There are also some BBC channels:

BBC Canada and BBC-K .... they have the usual daytime nonsense like that Llewellyn-Bowen person and the antiques games but they also have shows like Little Britian and Top Gear too.

Oh.. and there's BBC World (you know, the news channel).

Not surprising about the amount of TV from home as most people in Vancouver appear to be British Exclamation
