I was thinking about Corporal Jones the other day and his butchers shop. The question is did his assistant, Raymond, ever appear in the series? I wonder if Raymond is another character, like Mrs Mainwaring, who we never saw?

Raymond (played by John Ash) appeared in "The Two and A Half Feathers", in the scene where Jonesey receives the feathers.

We never saw 'Heathcliffe' who was Frasers boy assistant though!

Hi Ron,

Dick Haydon appeared as Raymond in "The Armoured Might of Lance Corporal Jones". That episode and the one David refers to ("The Two And A Half Feathers" with John Ash as Raymond) are the only ones when the Raymond character actually appears. He doesn't even appear in the Dad's Army film.

BTW, Heathcliff (Frazer's assistant) was never seen or heard and only mentioned in one episode - "Is There Honey Still For Tea?".

There was another employee in Jones' butcher's shop called Bailey who we never see but he is mentioned in "Museum Piece".

There were also other assistants over the course of the series:

Cashier - Miss Doris Mortimer
Mrs Johnson - Accounts
Raymond - Errand Boy
Bailey - Butcher's Assistant

There were also a couple of volunteers who helped with the counting of coupons:

Mrs Foster
Mrs Fox
